We will pick up a couple of lessons that we weren’t able to get to last week, due to ice.  Students will experience a variety of math concepts this week, and build related skills.  Most of them are enthusiastic about Stem and Leaf Plots…we will start the week with those.  Then we move on two different types of graphs:  histograms and scatter plots.  7th graders will be challenged with a project on Wednesday.  They are expected to plan a Zoo Tour that meets several requirements.  We will also do a lesson on Cross Products.

Please encourage your 7th grader to take part in the St. Jude’s Math-a-thon.  It allows them to polish up their math skills at the same time they contribute to a very worthy cause.  Permission slips go home this week.  Students work on math-a-thon problems at home during Catholic Schools Week.

6th Grade Math (Jan.25-29)

Because of our very abbreviated schedule last week, due to ice, some of the math this week is re-cycled from last week’s plans.  During the first part of the week, we will be working on lessons related to measurement.  Toward the end of the week, we will be reviewing adding and subtracting fractions.  Students will take the Unit 5 Quiz on Friday.

Our project during Unit 5 involves putting together “An Exhibit of Everyday Objects”.  Since we are midway through the unit, it is time for students to decide on the object that they will be exhibiting.  It should be an item they see or use daily that has been beautifully designed.  On Wednesday, they will be making a sketch of their object and labeling the length, width, and height of the item.

Please encourage your 6th grader to take part in the St. Jude’s Math-a-thon.  It allows them to polish up their math skills at the same time they contribute to a very worthy cause.  Permission slips go home this week.  Students work on math-a-thon problems at home during Catholic Schools Week.
